Whiting and Birch are seeking to develop a series of books offering critical perspectives on occupational therapy and occupational science. The attached is an invitation to submit proposals for what we hope will be an exciting development and an opportunity to generate some extended discussions in these fields. We would also like to hear from people who might be interested in forming a small but international editorial committee to help in delivering an innovative and challenging collection.

Critical Studies in Occupational Therapy and Occupational Science
This new series provides an opportunity for scholars to publish serious analytical studies and
monographs in the field of occupational therapy and occupational science – books which offer critical
discussion of the profession, its practice, its underpinning knowledge and its philosophy bases.
We are committed above all else to meeting the needs of those seeking to publish well researched,
innovative, and compelling material that is not well accommodated by the rigid constraints of tightly
categorised marketing genres. We believe that this series will be particularly welcomed by a diverse
and international range of research active occupational therapists and occupational scientists, people
who are often working in changing healthcare and social environments. The established Editorial
Board reflects the global reach intended.
We welcome proposals from occupational therapists and occupational scientists for books which:
• explore and analyse the complexities of intervention, culture and diversity in human occupation
across a wide range of topics
• are underpinned by rigorous methodology
Research monographs, edited collections and single or multiple authored research based texts,
among others, will be considered for publication via a robust, efficient but supportive peer review
process. This series will consist of challenging and higher level texts aimed at continuing professional
development, post-graduate or advanced studies rather than basic undergraduate texts. We will
also consider outstanding doctoral theses that can be converted into interesting monographs with
a wide appeal for an informed but broad occupational therapy and occupational science readership.
The first title in the series, Meaningful Living through Occupation, by Moses N. Ikiugu and Nick
Pollard, will be published in the Autumn of 2013. We are now seeking submissions for our 2014
programme.
